I received this beautiful Blanket in the mail last week... and I have my fingers crossed that it came from Wish2Stitch. **Received an email & YES it was**. I love to credit any donation to the generous blogger who sent it... so please let me know if I have this one wrong.
Lots of wonderful "wonky" stars on this pretty one.
Thank you for being a thoughtful & generous quilter.
I hope you display the "AnGeL" on your blog.
This was an idea started out of LoVe....

In Memory of...
Christopher... the beautiful son of Elizabeth.
Elizabeth has donated many Blankets of Love and this is her story...
Full sized Blankets...
Elizabeth has donated many Blankets of Love and this is her story...
I have
quilted butterflies on all of the blankets for my son Christopher who was 26 when he
died in November 2011. He had a
metabolic condition that we always knew might end his life early but he had a
lot of get up and go so we had him for 26 1/2 years.
When we
went to Canberra to bring him home there were lots of butterflies, one near his
room which kept flying around me. Then the next day when Michael and I took his dog for a walk, 3 or 4 were with us again. One was on the windscreen of
his car as we drove home (it stayed there for a good few klms)... so I think of
him as a butterfly.
He is in
each of the quilts that I send to you.
I also
found out & read about Elizabeth Kubler-Ross. She visited a Polish
concentration camp & found the children's room walls were covered in butterflies. After 25 years EKR decided that these children knew they were going to die so
left a message of hope that their souls would be reborn in a different form. This
confirms my belief about Christopher being around still in that form with us today.
I added
the butterfly to the labels to comfort other grieving families.
I hope
you don't mind that I shared Christopher’s story with you.
Making
these small quilts gives me a sense of purpose and is such a small thing to do
to help other grieving parents.
Thanks
Elizabeth.
Here are the latest blankets made with love by Elizabeth...

I really enjoy doing these & knowing that they go to a great cause has helped
me with losing Christopher. Hard to explain why this is... but it is.

New SizeS
On my recent delivery to one of the hospitals these donations go to... I became aware of the different sizes of blanket needed to cover the various ages of these unfortunate babies. Although the original size of 24 inch was suitable for full term babies they are just too large for the pre 20 week, extremely premature & premmie babies. The nurse in charge showed me the size that are needed and it broke my heart. Eight inch squares... yes you read it correctly 8 inch... & then any size in between these tiny ones & the full sized blanket.
In the past someone had donated a few wee ones and one even had a "memory" patch added. Some families choose to bury the baby with one and keep the other as a memory. I think that is a wonderful idea so from now on some of the blankets I make will have these patches added. These tiny blankets are not quilted, have flannel backing & are made using the bagged method.
I've also amended the "Making Quilts" tab on the sidebar... to suggested sizes.
Here is one with a "Memory Patch"... which is 3.5 inch square... with the blanket being 8 inch square.
If you would like to make a donation... please feel free to contact me.

Delivering Some Blankets
Canberra Hospital is just one recipient of the BLanKeTs of LoVe that are donated to me for this wonderful project. On a recent trip to Canberra I met a lovely young lady by the name of Emmalee who is now in charge of the birthing unit in this regional hospital. I was shown to the storage room where I saw all the wonderful items given to grieving families. Emmalee was very appreciative of the donations and wanted me to THANK each and everyone who has been so generous.
I was also made aware of another area that these fantastic nurses and support staff have to deal with. They need a supply of TINY blankets for the extremely premmie babies... and also for the pre 20 week fetuses. It broke my heart to see the size that is needed... I just never realised that this area of sadness had to be covered too.
I now have a whole in my heart that needs filling... so I will blog about these "tiny" sized blankets as soon as I get the chance to make one.
I will update the "Making Quilts" directions on the sidebar... asap.
